Umbrella Academy star Elliot Page has spoken out for the first time since coming out as transgender, thanking everybody for their support.

The actor, who also starred in Juno, was flooded with messages of support and acceptance after he shared a statement on Instagram earlier this month revealing he is trans, and that is pronouns are he/they.

Now, sharing a selfie on his Instagram feed, Elliot wrote: "From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

"Your love and support has been the greatest gift. Stay safe. Be there for each other."

The movie star then suggested his four million Instagram followers donate to charities Trans Lifeline and Trans Santa - both of which are helping people in the trans community who are in need this Christmas and New Year.

"See you in 2021. Xoxo Elliot," he signed off.

The 33-year-old announced he was transgender in November, asking for "patience" among his fans, and admitting that he felt "scared" to be sharing his truth.

"The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared. I'm scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the 'jokes' and of violence," he wrote.

"To be clear, I am not trying to dampen a moment that is joyous and one that I celebrate, but I want to address the full picture.

"I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive."

He continued: "To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better."

Elliot shot to fame in Hard Candy and Juno - in which he was even nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars.

Plus, he also starred in hits like X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past, before appearing in hits like Inception and Freeheld.

Most recently, Page has been starring in Umbrella Academy as superhero Vanya Hargreeves.

Elliot will continue to play his character Vanya in the series, according to Variety, and there are thought to be no plans to change his character's gender at this time.
