Actor Elliot Page has been heaped with praise from fans and co-stars after sharing a picture in swimming trunks for the first time since getting his top surgery.

The transgender TV star, known for starring in Umbrella Academy and Juno, shared a picture on Instagram on Monday as he posed in a pair of red trunks.

"Trans bb's first swim trunks #transjoy #transisbeautiful," he wrote.

In the image, he could be seen beaming from ear to ear as he stepped out of the water with his bare torso and chiselled abs on display.

Meanwhile, Ritu Arya penned: "8 pack," alongside a crying face and a heart.

Justin Cornwell quipped: "Dude I see why you crushed me on that workout".

Steve Blackman, a showrunner on the Netflix series, also gushed in the comments, writing: "Channeling happy summer vibes! Love it!!".

The star recently opened up about the fact he underwent top surgery earlier this year - which is a procedure that trans men often choose to undergo to remove breast tissue so their chest appears flatter.

Oscar-nominated Elliot shared the fact he is transgender in December last year, telling fans: "I can't begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I've been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community."

He added: "Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society."

We're so happy Elliot is living his best life!
