Alert! This is NOT A DRILL. Sir David Attenborough has officially got himself an Instagram account.

Yep, the legendary 94-year-old nature documentarian and conservationist has created a profile on the social media platform ahead of the release of his new Netflix documentary A Life On Our Planet.

And let's just say, people are shook.

While his account has only been up a matter of hours, having been created on Thursday morning (24th September), it already has 250,000 followers and counting.

His Instagram bio reads: "Stories from David Attenborough and the team behind A Life On Our Planet. Managed by the filmmakers."

Sir David's Instagram only has one post, so far - a video urging fans to help save the planet and do their bit to fight climate change.

You can watch it below:

In the clip, Sir David says: "Hello my name is David Attenborough and I've been appearing on radio and television for the past 60 years but this is my first time on Instagram.

"I'm making this move and exploring this new way of communication to me because, as we all know, the world is in trouble.

"Continents are on fire, glaciers are melting, coral reefs are dying, fish are disappearing from our oceans, the list goes on and on.

"But we know what to do about it, that's why I'm tackling this new way for me of communication.

"Over the next few weeks I'll be recording messages to explain what the problems are and how we can deal with them.

"Join me or, as we used to say in those early days of radio, stay tuned."

Filmmakers Colin Butfield and Jonnie Hughes will be posting his video messages on the page for him ahead of A Life On Our Planet's launch on Netflix on October 4th.

Produced by the World Wide Fund for Nature and Silverback Films, the doc is seet to followsthe broadcaster and national treasure as he reflects upon his own career, as well as highlighting "the devastating changes he has seen".

We can expect to see some footage of a (rather handsome) younger David at the start of his career, as well as devastating footage of ice caps melting and rainforests being torn down.

In a caption under the post on Sir David's new Insta, Colin and Jonnie wrote: "David Attenborough has spent a lifetime travelling, exploring the wild places of our planet and documenting the living world in all its variety and wonder.

"He's also witnessed the damaged caused. Saving our planet is now a communications challenge. We know what to do, we just need the will.

"That's why we want to share this message on Instagram. Because there is hope and together, we can inspire change."

They added: "Social media isn't David's usual habitat so while he's recorded messages solely for Instagram, like the one in this post, we're helping to run this account. In case you're wondering, 'we' are Jonnie and Colin and we worked with David on A Life On Our Planet.

"So, as well as sharing the messages he's recorded especially for this account we'll also post some exclusive clips and behind the scenes content. Stay tuned."

We hope he chucks some selfies in for good measure, too!
