Country singer Carrie Underwood has opened up about three heartbreaking miscarriages she suffered over the last two years during an emotional interview.

Carrie, who is currently expecting her second child with husband Mike Fisher, emotionally told CBS News that she reached her lowest point earlier this year when she thought she was going to miscarry again.

She recalled to CBS Sunday Morning: "2017 just wasn't how I imagined it. I'd kind of planned that 2017 was going to be the year that I work on new music and have a baby.

"I got pregnant early 2017 and it didn't work out. It happens... Got pregnant again in the spring, and it didn't work out. Got pregnant again, early 2018. Didn't work out.

"And that was the thing, in the beginning, it was like, 'Okay, God, we know this is, just wasn't Your timing. And that is all right. We will bounce back and figure our way through it'."

But when she thought she'd lost her baby a fourth time, Carrie explained that she struggled to understand why she kept falling pregnant if she couldn't have a baby.

"I was just sobbing," the country singer recalled. "I was like, 'Why on earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can't have a kid?'."

The 35-year-old continued, adding that she questioned God, by saying: "What is this? Either shut the door or let me have a kid."

She said: "That was like a Saturday - and the Monday I went to the doctor to, like, confirm, another miscarriage. And they told me everything was great."

Carrie and Mike share a son together, three-year-old Isaiah, with the 'Cry Pretty' artist saying that she tried to rationalise her three miscarriages with the fact that she already had the sweetest little boy.

The American Idol star explained: "I had always been afraid to be angry because we are so blessed. [Isaiah is) the best thing in the world, and I'm like, if we can never have any other kids, that's okay because he's amazing."

Carrie's new music reflects on her miscarriages in 2017, as well as a nasty fall that left her needing almost 40 stitches on her face and a broken wrist.
