AJ Pritchard has recalled the terrifying moment his girlfriend Abbie Quinnen caught fire after a YouTube tutorial on how to turn a wine bottle into a vase, went terribly wrong.

The tutorial involved dipping a rope into a chemical, wrapping it around the bottle and lighting it.

AJ was appearing on This Morning with brother and former Love Island star, Curtis, when he was asked how Abbie - who suffered third degree burns after the bottle exploded - is doing.

"Abbie is upstairs. I just want to say, for Abbie, for both of us, the love and support that has come through over these past few days is really what keeps both of us so positive and honestly it's so nice to have so much positivity in a world that feels quite overwhelming at the moment," he said.

"The thing was, to turn a wine bottle into a vase. There's a tutorial to just follow online and unfortunately it went horribly wrong. I think what's really scary is that her clothes caught light, her hair caught light and it all happened so fast, yet felt like a lifetime of a scenario."

"When it happened, I think the most upsetting thing is seeing your loved one, someone you love, on fire and being, what felt like so helpless in such a moment," he continued.

"As soon as the fire on her body, on her hair, on her skin was out we covered her in damp towels, we called 999, we did everything we thought was the right thing to do and to get her to A&E as soon as possible.

"Thankfully, Curtis was here to help. Abbie was in shock, I was trying to keep Abbie calm, Curtis was trying to keep me calm and get us both to the hospital."

AJ went on to explain how difficult it was to be away from Abbie, while waiting outside the hospital. "I was just like, 'I can't leave her side', even though I couldn't go into the hospital because of Covid and obviously doing everything the right way to help everybody else," he said.

Speaking of Abbie being discharged from hospital, he added: "Seeing her that first day, picking her up from hospital, that was the happiest day of my life, seeing her walk to me, get out of the wheelchair - obviously she was all bandaged up as you can see from that image - getting her back in bed."

Abbie spoke out about the incident on social media this weekend, explaining she has been having hospital treatment over the last seven weeks.

"I am sad I have been absent in the last few weeks & haven't posted much with AJ, we so desperately wanted to be able to share daily vlogs with you all but unfortunately I have had an accident," she wrote.

"Whilst we were attempting to create a glass bottle into a vase from following a YouTube tutorial, it went terrible wrong and it resulted in me incurring injuries [sic] & burns requiring continuous hospital treatment over the past 7 weeks.

"I really need you all to be so careful with what you're doing & if you are copying any YouTube videos. I will be ok! I love you all."
