We all know someone who loves tequila more than most, and if you're wondering what to get them for their next birthday, how about is stay in an actual tequila barrel in the birthplace of the iconic spirit?
Located just outside the town of Tequila in Mexico, where the tipple was first created, lies a boutique hotel offering the unique stay.
Matices Hotel de Barricas (meaning quite literally Hotel of Barrels) sees rows and rows of enormous tequila barrels - where the drink was actually once stored - upcycled to make cosy little homes for guests.
The hotel is located right next to a Tequila Brewey and offers tequila tasting sessions and guided tours of the facility and the on-site tequila museum.
The barrels feature a sofa, coffee maker and minibar, private bathroom and a private terrace offering great views of the resort. We're thinking a day of tequila tasting followed by margaritas on the terrace. And maaaaybe a lie-in the next day...
What's more, guests can ramble into the town of Tequila (just 10 minutes on foot) or drive to the buzzing Guadalajara in just 45 minutes.
Matices Hotel de Barricas is available to book now, and already guests are raving about their stays.
"The location is really nice and authentic. The style of the barrels is very nice. The restaurant has very good food and cocktails. It is a really nice experience. They have also implemented disinfection measures," wrote one guest.
Another said: "We adored the barrels, it was such a unique experience, food was lovely and so were the grounds, staff were friendly. We'll definitely go back. "
While we simply can't wait to book our stay here, it's worth remembering that currently Brits are advised against all but essential travel to Mexico. If you do decided to travel you might have to quarantine for two weeks afterwards.
Worth it to stay in a barrel of tequila? It just might be...
