You Can Now Stay In The Costa Rican Rainforest With Sloths

The most relaxing trip alongside the most chilled out creatures - yes please.

If you love to chill out among nature while on holiday, you're going to fit right in at this resort in Costa Rica, where you can spend your days lounging around with sloths - after all these animals knows how to do it best.

Nayara Springs and Nayara Resort (the two are linked) in Central America, provide accommodation of dreams to its guests in the form of wooden villas.

Set in 15-acres of gardens in the Arenal Volcano National Park, as you wander through the two sister resorts, you're likely to spot a sloth (and if you're lucky enough, one with a baby) amongst the trees.

Nayara Resorts actually opened a sloth sanctuary back in 2017, to provide a home for the adorable mammals.

At the time, there were just two sloths, but since planting 300 Cecropia trees (yummy sloth food!) on resort grounds, the population has grown (there are now 15).

The idea of the sanctuary is to protect the sweet three-toed creatures. Their habitat area had decreased because of humans and predators so the hotels wanted to help them out.

But the tree planting has also attracted birds and frogs too - you will really feel deep in the jungle here.

The five-star resorts consist of the 35-villa Nayara Springs and 50-bungalow Nayara Resort, Spa & Gardens and villas start at $390 (£301) per night.

Some of the more expensive villas feature private infinity pools fed by hot springs, others have jacuzzis, whilst some 'simply' have gardens overlooking the rainforest with an outside shower - though that still sounds pretty incredible to us.

Once you've arrived and settled into your luxury lodgings, you can go for a wander to see if you can spot one of the furry herbivores.

Alternatively, residents can join a complimentary walking tour where staff will help you spot them.

But if sloth-spotting isn't quite fast-paced enough, the hotels also offer plenty of excursions. From canoeing trips to jungle treks and zip-lining - you certainly won't get bored.

Head to the Nayara Gardens website here and Nayara Springs (a boutique adults-only resort) here to book or find out more.
