If you're forever finding yourself torn between happy hour and an exercise class, a new fitness concept might let you have the best of both worlds.

Die-hard traditional yogis, cover your eyes and ears, because you can now do a 'drunk yoga' retreat in Mexico.

Hosted at the luxurious five-star Haven Riviera Cancun, the retreat is run by NYC and LA-based alternative yoga brand Drunk Yoga.

Certified yoga instructor Eli Walker launched Drunk Yoga after a friend who claimed they were inflexible said they could touch their toes "only when drunk".

Drunk Yoga's standard classes offer a 'brief happy hour' followed by a beginner-friendly 45-minute vinyasa sequence with a bevvy in-hand.

The idea is to encourage people who might not otherwise try a yoga class to get involved, lose their inhibitions and get a little more bendy in the process.

The retreat, dubbed New Year, Do You, runs from February 20th-23rd in the stunning palm-shaded grounds of the sea-facing Haven Riviera Cancun.

Activities include daily drunk yoga classes - sipping and stretching with a cocktail in hand - as well as sober sunrise beach yoga sessions and character development workshops to set a positive agenda for the year ahead.

Eli, who is also a certified astrologist, will provide one-on-one birth chart readings for all participating yogis.

Full highlights of the trip include:

  • Drunk Yoga classes-sipping and stretching with cocktails in-hand
  • One-on-one birth chart readings by Eli
  • Refreshing (sober) sunrise beach yoga
  • Eli's signature Divine Your Story:tm: character-development workshops to inspire insightful self-inquiry for the new year ahead
  • A copy of Eli's book, Drunk Yoga: 50 Wine & Yoga Poses to Lift Your Spirit(s)
  • Creative cocktails from Eli's curated "Drunk Yoga's Perfect Pairings" menu

Writing about her practice on her website, Eli wrote: "The Drunk Yoga revolution sprang from my desire to bring yoga, self-empowerment and community to yogis and non-yogis alike.

"We ditch perfectionism, take the pressure out of the practice and turn yoga into a party.

"My greatest hope is that you leave Drunk Yoga feeling uplifted, newly empowered, and intoxicated with joy."

Tempted? Three nights of drunk yoga costs $899 (approx £686) per person. That price tag includes flights from Fort Lauderdale in Florida, all-inclusive resort accommodations and the New Year, Do You Retreat.

So if you're not based in Florida, you will need to consider the cost to fly there first too.

Book here and make sure you do so by 31st January.

We'll see you on the mat with a margarita...
