If you've got your sights set on finding love in 2020 (or even just a bit of fun, nudge-nudge, wink-wink) then you're in luck, because this weekend marks the official return of Dating Sunday, also known as Singles Sunday.

The first Sunday of each calendar year traditionally sees a spike in singletons logging online to find love, with some platforms reporting a massive 75 per cent surge in users over the 24-hour period.

With it being the busiest day for online dating apps and sites, there are more potential dates online than any other day of the year. In other words, there's never been a better time to find your new bae.
Reasons for the sudden surge this weekend include the countdown to Valentine's Day, as well as people who are newly single following a slew of Christmas break-ups. Uplifting stuff, eh?
It also falls slap-bang in the middle of 'cuffing season' which traditionally sees singletons searching for a partner to hunker down with during the colder months.

Last year, for example, dating apps including Match and Tinder both saw hordes of singletons signing up for love, while Hinge users went on 53 per cent more dates in January than they did in the previous month.
David Vermeulen, founder of dating app The Inner Circle, said: "We see a huge spike in activity on the first Sunday of the year as singles start to set new year resolutions and contemplate being single on Valentine's Day."
In January 2019, we saw a 26 per cent increase in members joining The Inner Circle, a 20 per cent increase in the number of messages being sent and a 30 per cent increase in the number of matches, compared to the week before.

"This goes to show that singles have the best chance of getting a date and meeting someone in the new year if they are active on Dating Sunday."
