Neighbour Threatens To Report Woman For Sunbathing In Communal Garden

The neighbour took to Reddit to find out whether he should report the woman for sunbathing.

A neighbour has taken to Reddit to ask for advice about a fellow resident who insists on sunbathing in the communal garden at their apartment building.

Posting in Reddit's Am I the As*hole thread, the neighbour described living in a “very desirable building with extensive maintained grounds.” They go on to describe the grounds as “purely ornamental” and are rarely used as a garden. They want to know whether they should report the sunbather for "antisocial behaviour."

Most of the residents apparently use their balconies for outdoor excursions, however, one bedroom apartments do not have them.

After living at the property for two years, the neighbour has “never seen anyone use the grounds as if it is their personal space.”

This all changed during the heatwave after the neighbour noticed a woman sunbathing on the grass. “She brings a blanket and a book and is out there for hours, reading in a bikini top and shorts.”

They added: “On the first day, I asked her if she lived in the building and she said she did, having recently moved in. Later on, I saw her access the building with keys so I don’t think she was lying. She was literally out there from 10am till 4pm.

The neighbour saw the woman again and informed that the gardens were not meant to be used for sunbathing. The sunbather responded that she is a resident and one of the biggest reasons attracting her to the property was the garden which her realtor told her was communal.

After feeling “intimidated”, the neighbour sent a picture of the woman sunbathing to the resident’s group chat on WhatsApp and urged them to call out “antisocial behaviour”.

They said: “I am considering reporting her to the landlord if she continues, am I the as*hole? There are plenty of parks nearby.”

The Reddit thread divided commenters, with some people calling out the neighbours behaviour, particularly the WhatsApp picture, while others tried to defend them.

WTF is an 'ornamental garden' - all gardens are ornamental! It's a garden and it's communal she can use it as she likes,” said one person.

While a second Reddit user wrote: “Unless there's a specific rule that she's breaking, you need to mind your own business.

And a third added: “Who made you the garden police?

What do you think?
