Sometimes, Instagram can feel awash with 'left hand update!', 'boy did good!' and 'I said yes!' posts. And while we're super happy for you - no, really - truth be told, it's often enough to induce a few vom noises.

It makes a refreshing change, then, to see someone owning single life - and one woman doing it excellently is New Yorker Mary McCarthy.

Mary has mastered her own kind of 'engagement' shots, but instead of rocking a huge diamond on her left hand, it remains as bare as the day she was born.

Her Instagram account, @notengaged, parodies the ubiquitous engagement ring shot and documents her life as a single woman with hilarious honesty.

Holidays to Greece sans boyfriend, cheese boards and wine without her fiancé, watching romantic sunsets minus Mr McCarthy... these are all adventures of her "unwed left hand" she shares with her followers.

Mary started the Instagram account after arriving him from a friend's engagement party.

"I picked up tacos on the way home and texted a picture to my friends 'when you're not engaged, but at least you have tacos!' and the rest is history," she told HuffPost.

"The Instagram essentially started as an inside joke with a handful of friends and now it's grown into a much larger inside joke." Mary jokes she's been a bridesmaid about "seven million times," for her friends.

Her account - which currently has over 108,000 followers - has proved a hit with fellow single ladies.

"Omg why is this the most accurate thing ever. Are you in my brain?," penned one person.

"Feel like you would like this account as much as I do," said another tagging her friend.

So funny!

"Soooo relatable," said a third.

"Thank you for changing the game of being single! Your captions continue to leave me crying of laughter. And appreciating the fact I am a 'party of one`," said another.

Mary's even created a website dedicated her to adventures, where fans can RSVP to her 'wedding', dated 31st December 2022.

She writes: "Ok instead of coming to my wedding, go on any trip u want, or buy ur books for law school (i'm so proud of you btw) or give it to ur aunt who needs a bike."

Too funny. We stan you, sister.
