A new mum was given the most unexpected heads up about her baby's luscious locks when a regular scan revealed her baby's full head of hair in the womb.

Lauren Deacon, 24, was shocked when the sonographer revealed that the little white lines on her 34-week scan were her baby's hair.

"I didn't even know hair could be picked up on an ultrasound," Lauren said. "We were given a photo with an eagle eye view of her skull and there are white lines which are her hair follicles.

Lauren and her husband Steven, 29, assumed the strands of hair would fall out by the time Blake, now 10 months, was born but they were soon proven otherwise.

When Blake was born in July 2020, she had a full head of thick dark hair which has since grown into flowing curls and ringlets.

Lauren added: "My husband Steven and I assumed it would fall out by the time she arrives, but she was born with a thick black head of hair.

"It's been forever growing since and it is gorgeous. I am very jealous of her curls!"

Lauren assumes the thick hair comes from Steven's side of the family, as he is half Filipino.

She said: "I didn't have any heartburn during the pregnancy so the old wives' tale didn't apply to me.

"I assume she has inherited her hair from her dad. Everyone always compliments her hair and says it is beautiful. They are so surprised by her age and assume she is older than she is."

According to BabyCenter, hair is visible on a baby's head by 22 weeks, and may grow slightly by the end of the pregnancy. The baby's hair often changes from how it looks at birth and babies often lose their hair within the first six months and grow new hair in its place.Featured Image Credit: Caters
