Twitter users have reacted with fury after a man shamed his girlfriend for ordering a tuna-melt panini in a NYC café.
A writer witnessed the moment in the city and recalled the interaction in a now-viral tweet, explaining that she tried to subtly emit messages to tell the woman to let that man go immediately.
Twitter users quickly weighed-in on the exchange, and the post has garnered 49K likes as well as thousands of retweets from other angry users.
"How do I transmit subtle 'leave him' vibes to this woman in this sandwich shop whose boyfriend told her that the tuna melt would be 'a little fattening, babe'," New York-based writer Rachel Syme shared.

She added: "I went with an unsubtle huffy sigh."
Naturally, everyone else was pretty p*ssed off after hearing the interaction too, and came forward with their own experiences of being body shamed by their partner in former relationships.
"I was in a relationship like this with a gym rat boyfriend who was super judgy of all my choices, who at one point was literally saying to me daily 'if you loved me you would exercise'," tweeted one person.
Another person shared: "My ex did this all the time. Once he shamed me so much over ordering grilled cheese by the time it came O was crying and asked the waiter to just wrap it up. I don't think I ever ate it. Seriously girl, run. Life is too short."
I hope she got two with extra mayo.

I asked if it was her money, and she said yes, so I told her that if she likes it, it fits, and she wants it, then she should buy it and her husband couldn't say anything about it.

I saw her go up to him & very decisively say "I'm going to buy this" and I teared up a bit.
I did this at a family party. Young woman in her twenties with a model body was told by a man - "Do you really want to eat 2 pieces of cake?" I piped up, "OMG you are my kind of girl! I'm getting another piece, too!" Walked in front of him and asked her what kind should I get...

"Working in retail, I had a woman ask her husband's advice on a dress. 'Don't plan on buying it unless you're also planning on a diet,' he replied," recalled a third.
"Once on a night out, a beautiful girl's bf was clearly putting her down. He went to the loo & I complimented her dress. She was obviously upset so I told her she could do so much better. She FBd me next day, finished with him a week later & we're still in touch," tweeted a fourth.
