Mum Gives Son Heartwarming Teddy Made Of His Grandad's Old Shirts

27-year-old Josiah didn't realise the significance of his mother's gift at first, until it hit him like a ton of bricks.

In life, losing loved ones is one of the hardest experiences we face, and anything we can hold on to that reminds us of them means so much.

When one man's mum gave him a teddy bear over Thanksgiving, at first, he wasn't quite sure what to make of it.

Josiah said it took him a second to realise the importance of the teddy bear (

It was only a second later that he realised its true importance - as a priceless treasure he'd keep for the rest of his life.

Josiah's patchwork teddy bear - with a blue face, red chest and mix-match of contrasting prints - was made from his late grandfather's shirts.

"Mom gave me a teddy bear thanksgiving. Took a second to realise it's one of the most valuable things I've ever owned," the 27-year-old wrote on Twitter.

Alongside a picture of the cuddly toy, Josiah, from Philadelphia, USA, shared retro photos of him with his grandfather, who was sporting the striped and checkered shirts.

Josiah's grandfather passed away in June of this year in Oklahoma. "He was the best man the ever lived," the doting grandson told Tyla.

Speaking about his mother's gift, Josiah added she "deserves more thanks than I can give for this."

Her added: "It's so f*cking comforting and something I know I'll pass down to my kids and hopefully their kids."

The post has since been shared over 26,000 times and liked by a massive 186,000 people.

Below it, others shared sentimental mementos of their loved ones, with some similarly having their relatives old clothes made into teddy bears.

"My dad died when I was nine my mom decided to do the same thing now my dad is always with me," wrote one user, sharing a photo of her own teddy bear.

"My grandpa had this shirt for a while and it started to get real dingy and one year for Father's Day we took him to the airport to fly and I bought him a new shirt the bear is made from his original," shared another.

"I have two bears. One from my grandmother's clothing and one from my mom's. Also a pillow from my grandpa's. Last Christmas, my aunt gave my cousins and me a large piece of framed fabric with handwritten recipe cards of each of our favourite recipes that my grandma used to make," penned another.
