An IKEA store offered around 200 beds to people stranded on a motorway following a horrific crash between to lorries.

Some motorists were stuck for up to six hours after the crash near junction 30 and 31 on the M25 but the Swedish furniture store didn't want to see people stuck.

Thurrock IKEA store in Essex offered its beds to the stranded motorists, prompting many people to praise the furniture on Twitter.

One man wrote: "Good on IKEA for letting people, including my wife and daughter, stay in their bedrooms over night after the M25 accident."

Another added: "My daughter & I are trapped in Ikea due to crash on M25.. 5 hours and counting... colouring in is saving our sanity... Just.Thank god for felt tips, rainbows and unicorns. I can never face a meatball again!"

Another IKEA resident took to Twitter to share a picture of the room she and another person had been given for the night - and she later revealed they were in the store until 9.30pm when they were finally allowed back onto the road.

Among those stuck in the traffic was Dame Kelly Holmes who admitted she had to go to the toilet by the side of the road.

She tweeted: "Sorry but I had to go! That's one thing a runner does well and doesn't care about - squatting! (It was just a wee before you start with the emojis)

"Even the lovely traffic control guy give me some toilet roll and hand wipes!??"

Thankfully, no one is thought to be seriously hurt in the collision which occurred at around 2.35pm yesterday.
