This Is How To Stop Notes Going Bold

This Is How To Stop Notes Going Bold

The same kind of annoying as catching your clothes on a door handle.

Name a more frustrating iPhone glitch than your new note automatically typing in bold.

Ok, we know it's a just a small thing. A first world problem. And in the interest of, well, perspective, given the current state of the world RN, it's really not that big of a deal.

But that doesn't stop it from being effing annoying.

For anyone that needs a bit more context, we're talking about when you go to type out a new note in your Notes app and the first line is automatically is set to bold.

Isn't this just the *worst*? (

Shouldn't non-bold be the default? you ask. What if we don't want a header for every note we make? you might wonder. What if we simply want to jot down the name of a film we were recommended, our shopping list or comeback to a fictional argument we might never have, just in case?

It's the aggressive bold really that necessary?

Anyway, we hear you loud and clear and luckily, we've found a workaround.

It appears the problem started after a recent iOS update and one frustrated user posted about the issue in one of Apple's online discussion threads.

Thaaaaat's better (

"Ever since the updates after 13, my new notes automatically start in bold text. They are also bigger than the older notes. Bold is not selected in the display and brightness section either. I have to turn bold off each time I start writing a new note," the user penned.

"This is very annoying. How do I change it to start in normal text and not bold? I did not have this problem before the last few updates."

57 other users said they too were searching for a solution to the same issue, and luckily, one tech-savvy saviour came up trumps.

Simply find the solution in your Settings (

"I was just given a solution that worked for me," they wrote. "If you go to Settings and click on Notes, find where it says 'New notes start with'. This may have been changed to 'Title'. You can change it back to 'Body' and fix the problem."

Hurrah! So simple.

There's us tapping away inside the app, slowing losing our minds about how to turn it off when the answer was lying in our Settings all along.

Title is the one you want (

To recap, you find Notes in Settings, scroll down to Viewing, select New Notes Start With, and select Body as opposed to Title.

In a world of problems, at least one tiny aspect of our lives has been made a bit easier.
