Tell a guy you're not interested and what's the worst you expect to happen? If you're lucky you'll never hear from him again, or at worst, you might endure a few nasty, sore loser comments until he gets bored and moves on.

Unfortunately the reality was far worse for 18-year-old Gabrielle Walsh who suffered a horrific attack at the hands of man she turned down on a night out in Manchester this weekend.

Gabrielle was heading home from Club Boom in the Gay Village with pal Kyle McKeown at around 3.30am when they were approached by three men - one of who took a fancy to the college student.

"We were going to go home. I'd taken my shoes off and this guy just came over to me and said: 'I like your feet,'" recalled Gabrielle. "I just said: 'OK' and we tried to walk away."

Rather than take the hint, the man continued to pursue Gabrielle and Kyle until she was forced to turn around and say: "I'm sorry, I'm not interested."

And you'd think it would end there, right? Sadly not.

The man insulted Kyle by calling him "specky four eyes", but apparently not content with his slight, turned to Gabrielle and knocked her out with one punch.

"They kept harassing us. I was saying to Kyle: 'Let's go'," added Gabrielle. "Then he hit me - he fully knocked me out. When I woke up I was on the floor and the three of them had jumped on Kyle as well."

With the damage done, the group of guys finally left the two friends alone bleeding on the floor before volunteers from community safety partnership the Village Angels approached to give Gabrielle some first aid.

"They tried to get me an ambulance but they said it was a two-hour wait so I just got a taxi to hospital," Gabrielle added.

"They didn't do much, they basically just gave me some eye drops and told me to go home. I went back to the eye hospital [today] and they said I've got a blood clot on my eye. I still can't really see out of it, when I open my eye all I see is yellow."

A friend posted images of her injuries and an account of what happened on social media, which has since been shared hundreds of times.

While one witness has come forward to confirm what they saw happen, the police are still on the hunt for the culprits.

"I'm not a rude person, I just said 'Sorry I'm not interested,'" explained Gabrielle. "I think it was a jealousy, ego thing because I rejected him in front of his friends. Girls feel like they can't say 'no'. It's scared me, I'm scared to go out, I've always got to be with somebody."

For both Gabrielle's sake, as well as the whole of womankind, we hope they catch these thugs soon.
