Best Man Asked To Leave Wedding After Insulting Bridesmaids During Speech

It did not go down well.

The best man's speech at a wedding can be pretty hit and miss.

There's that unspoken pressure to deliver a hilarious, yet heartfelt tribute - and, of course, there's a very fine line between being funny and taking things too far.

One bloke found out the hard way after he delivered a speech that left one bridesmaid in tears, and ultimately got him thrown out of the wedding.

The groom's best friend admitted he had struggled to include something in his speech about the bridesmaids because he didn't know any of them.

His friends advised him it would be best to say something spontaneous on the day that was either heartfelt or funny.

He decided to go down the funny route after feeling like the speech was going well.

"I got to the business end of the speech and left a bit blank so I could say something about the bridesmaids," he explained on Reddit.

"It just came to me and I said, 'Bridesmaids, I am a bit short of time here and I don't really know you all so I'd just like to say that five our of six of you look stunning today... figure it out amongst yourselves'."

However the impromptu joke backfired spectacularly and the room went completely quiet.

"I knew I'd really f***ed up", said the best man.

"One of them started crying and I didn't actually mean any of them it was literally just nonsense.

"When I went to apologise, without sounding mean, I realised that she isn't actually that good looking and was significantly less beautiful than the other bridesmaids.

"The bride came up to me and just said 'I think it's best you leave' and the groom just nodding behind her."

Feeling guilty, he took to the wedding Facebook page to apologise to the guests but instead received a rude message back from the bride's nan.

Reddit readers didn't offer much sympathy either.

One user commented, "Rule of thumb for speeches, especially the best man speech. You can barb the groom, you can barb the groomsmen; but bride and bridesmaids is 100% shower with compliments section of the speech, full stop."

Another added, "The joke is s***ty always, but he didn't even know the bridesmaids which made it 100x worse. Friends rag on each other all the time, buy you can't rag on strangers."

The heartfelt route probably would have been a safer option...
