A wild theory making the rounds on Twitter suggests that legendary street artist Banksy is none other than Neil Buchanan from Art Attack.

Sorry, WHAT?!

It's not the first time someone has linked Neil with Banksy, however the rumours seem to have gathered momentum this weekend after a series of tweets, including one Twitter user who said they'd heard the claims and believed it "without question".

"Just heard that it's rumoured Neil Buchanan is Banksy. If true, it's the funniest s**t ever. Aintree's finest," the tweet read.

"He's a musician and art has followed in the cities of shows he's done allegedly. This is straight in the believe without question category."

The theory is that Neil's band has performed in a number of locations where Banksy's art work was also discovered.

And now other Twitter users have taken to the post to agree that 58-year-old Neil could well be the mysterious artist, whose work has popped up all over the world.

One person even said they had seen Banksy around 20 years ago, but admitted she wouldn't be able to identify him now.

"In the late nineties/early noughties, someone pointed Banksy out to me at the Notting Hill Arts Club. I also saw him doing a stencil outside my flat in Hoxton at around the same time (hood up). Could I pick him out of a line-up? Absolutely not," they wrote.

But this seemed to spur the original poster on more, who replied: "So you wouldn't deny that it's Neil even though you've seen Banksy?? This is big."

"If only he'd been wearing his Art Attack jumper," she replied.

Another added: "They say not to believe everything you read online but I 100% believe this. Don't even need to look up the cities for confirmation. Neil is Banksy, Banksy is Neil."

Others said it was exactly the kind of news 2020 needs, while one person added to the thread: "As a Bristolian I can say that this definitely true. We've known this for years down here."

What!

Of course, others were very sceptical, with many claiming the anonymous artist isn't just one person, but a number of people.

Others claimed the street artist lives in Bristol, or London, while some were adamant that he does live in Liverpool.

Some of the most supported theories point to Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja or artist Robin Gunningham - but the truth is no one knows Banksy's real identity.

Now, the Neil rumour is a bit of a tenuous link, but we love this theory so much we're just going to go along with it!
