Peter Rabbit fans, assemble. The Royal Mint has just unveiled a limited edition coin featuring Beatrix Potter's beloved character and it looks spectacular.

The Royal Mint announced that Peter Rabbit will have the honour of appearing on their commemorative £5 crown and one-ounce coins for the very first time, in partnership with Penguin Random House.

This is quite a big deal for Peter Rabbit - until now, Peter Rabbit and his friends have appeared on the 50p which proved to be a huge success for The Royal Mint. He will now hop over to a new coin on the reverse of the £5 crown as well as silver and gold one ounce coins and it will be the only Peter Rabbit release this year.

Thanks to the larger surface area of the £5 crown, The Royal Mint has space to explore the timeless narrative of The Tale of Peter Rabbit and capture more detail than ever before.

The new coin references an adorable scene of the Rabbit family from an early part of Potter's story, when Peter's mother warns him not to get into any mischief - we all know how that turns out! Capturing the warmth and charm of the original illustration, the coin will be key piece for collectors.

Ffion Gwillim, product designer at The Royal Mint, designed the new coin using original storybook illustrations, settling on an image showing the whole Rabbit family together. Speaking about the design, Ffion said: "What I really like about this particular illustration is that it has a great narrative element. As a designer I always look to tell a story, just as Beatrix Potter did in her unique and wonderful way.

"It was a lot of fun to revisit The Tale of Peter Rabbit. It's such a timeless classic and Peter's antics never get old."

Clare Maclennan Divisional Director for Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint said: "The £5 crown is truly a wonderful piece for collecting, with the larger surface area showcasing The Royal Mint's abilities as designers and creators of coinage.

"It has also allowed us to capture the magical world of Peter Rabbit, which deserves the space to be able to tell such a timeless narrative. Peter Rabbit has been a key part of our commemorative coin journey, and we are pleased to offer him a new platform on a new denomination."

The coin is available as gold and silver Proof editions, as well as a Brilliant Uncirculated edition. You can see the whole range here.

In other Peter Rabbit news, the long awaited trailer for Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway dropped ahead of its release on 17th May.

Check out the trailer below:

The sequel sees Peter (voiced by James Corden) is back for another feature-length animated movie, directed by Will Gluck - and he's bringing Flopsy (Margot Robbie), Mopsy (Elizabeth Debicki) and the rest of his gang along with him for the ride.

As Bea (Rose Byrne) and Thomas (Domhnall Gleeson) focus on starting their life together (and maybe even a family), the new film will see a slightly neglected Peter going off the rails.

This is such a great time to be a Peter Rabbit fan!
