An American woman on TikTok has been rinsed by Brits after trying to make a proper cup of English tea.
The saga began when TikTok user @happygoliving bought a kettle, in the hopes of being able to make a cup of tea without needing to heat up her water via the microwave.
After using the electric kettle incorrectly, the TikToker took to the social media platform to ask fellow users what she was doing wrong. You can watch below:
After a slew of horrified comments, the woman realised she'd been adding her tea to the kettle of boiling water before it had boiled, instead of simply popping the bag in a cup and adding water like we normally would.

Drama over... or so she thought.
In another follow-up video, the woman was confused over why Brits add the teabag and then the water, when in her opinion, wouldn't it make sense to add the teabag to the kettle and make a bigger pot of tea?
TikTokers were horrified at the suggestion, with one person commenting: "Girl using that amount of tea to that amount of water has to be soooo weak and flavourless. Stick to the directions that say how many bags per oz water."
While another said: "I hope you eventually figure out how to make tea!"

And a third pointed out: "Pour the boiled water from the kettle into a teapot and then add the tea. You're not supposed to boil tea. It burns it."
Following the comments, the TikTok user posted another video, explaining: "In order not to create an international incident, I am going to make a proper cup of tea I hope, based on all of your comments.
"First I will start with the appropriate number of teabags... I borrowed this teapot from my neighbour and I have here a teacup."

The user explained the only milk she had was a coconut water blend, which she popped in the microwave as she wasn't sure if it needed heating.
Once the water was boiled and the tea brewed, she then added milk first, before pouring her tea.
And as you can probably imagine, people were all kinds of offended.

One wrote: "Please don't make tea anymore."
And another added: "This is appalling. Boil water, teabag in cup, pour boiling water over teabag, pour cold milk in to achieve the colour."
Meanwhile others were absolutely gobsmacked at the teapot, which we have to admit does resemble a vase.
"That's not a teapot," said one. "Teapots have lids."

"That's not a tea jug! That's a water jug!" Said another.
Despite the drama, we think people are being a little harsh. Full marks for effort, right?
