Stomach-Churning Video Shows Worms Crawling Out Of Strawberries After Soaking In Salt Water

There's a good chance we're never eating strawberries again, after a video emerged online which appeared to show teeny tiny worms crawling out of what we thought was a delicious fruit.

While many of us simply wash our strawberries by rinsing in tap water, a video on TikTok has revealed that actually, they should be soaked in salt water.

Why? Because it's the only thing that removes the teeny worms living inside. We know, vom.

In the video, Krista Torres explains that while she usually rinses the fruit with tap water, it doesn't clean them (and remove the critters) effectively.

"So how do you wash your strawberries? Usually just in the sink right? Well that's how I do it but apparently there's little bugs inside these guys," she says.

"So what you do is you fill up a glass of water, add salt and once the salt is dissolved you put the strawberries in."

Krista explained she let the strawberries soak for around 30 minutes. Then, to our absolute horror and disgust, tiny white worms can be seen crawling on the surface of the fruit, having emerged from inside.

Honestly, pass us a bucket.

"I am so disgusted right now," said Krista.

Could it be a one off, we hear you ask? Sorry, no - sadly not.

Another TikTok user, 31toni, tried the strawberry experiment and in devastating news we can confirm she also experienced the creepy worms.

"Ladies and gentleman I have some beautiful, juicy strawberries," she said.

"All i do is rinse them off but everyone on TikTok has been washing them with salt."

And after just a few moments, the white, worm-like bugs can be seen emerging from the fruit and floating around in the water.

"Shut the f**k up. I see a bug already. I know you y'all see that," she says.

"That's another one. That s**t is high-key gross. I think he is even holding a smaller bug in his hand."

You might think that was traumatising enough, but nope, it gets worse. Over on Facebook, one person shared an image of the aftermath, after she decided to soak her strawberries, too.

She also shared exactly what you'll need to make the salty solution.

"After nearly 25 years of living, TikTok taught me how to properly wash strawberries. They are FILLED with tiny bugs and tons of dirt!!

"1 part white vinegar 4 parts cold water. Sprinkle of salt. Let sit 5 mins. Rinse with water. Pat dry. Thank me later."

According to Cloud Mountain Farm Center, the worms are "most likely the larvae of Spotted Wing Drosophila, a non-native fruit fly that lays its eggs on just ripening berries and cherries."

I mean, there's a good chance we're never eating strawberries again, however these bugs are said to be completely harmless and are actually common in most fruits.

So basically, you've probably eaten hundreds already! Brill.
