Having a companion - furry or otherwise - is a basic human need. But, sadly, not all elderly people are pithy to the company they so desperately need to live a full and happy life.

Of course, this is only exacerbated by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has catapulted thousands more at risk adults into isolation.

That's why Ageless Innovation have worked hard to come up with an invention which they believe will help to ease Covid-19 loneliness.

Introducing Joy For All Companion Pets, the robotic animals that will offer lonely people solace at times when nobody else is able to be by their side.

The idea came after peer-reviewed research covered in The Gerontological Society of America proved that robotic animals could alleviate loneliness among older people, those who live alone and those who have fewer social connections.

Research also found the life-like robots could "help combat loneliness and improve mental wellbeing amongst ageing loved ones, and those living with dementia".

Originating in the US, the company's portfolio of animatronic, interactive cats and dogs are available for caregivers to adopt, to add a light-hearted, playful and interactive energy into the lives of those who need it most.

The company claim they are currently being used in multiple care homes across America with incredible results.

"Researchers have found that this technology can significantly reduce anxiety levels and agitation, provide comfort, and improve overall quality of life," they say.

The robotic dog comes with a sweet red bandana around its neck, and actually looks insanely life like.

"In between naps and being adorable, real puppies require a lot of special attention the website reads.

"Joy For All Companion Pet Golden Pup has all the love in the world to give but it won't chew up your slipper!"

They add: "Thanks to built-in sensors and speakers the pup can recreate some of the more delightful moments of owning a dog".

The dog will respond to motion and touch, has a heartbeat (which is designed to calm at human touch) and makes authentic sounds, using voice recognition 'bark back' technology to interact with its 'owner'.

Meanwhile, the cat toys promise to "look, feel and sound like real cats," and they're available with grey, black and ginger fur.

"They're so much more than soft fur soothing purrs and pleasant meows," the website reads.

"These cats respond to petting, hugging and motion much like the real ones you know and love but don't require any special care or feeding.

"This personally rich experience can bring joy and comfort to aging loved ones without any vet bills to worry about".

Much like the dogs, the cats use motion sensors and voice recognition to interact with their 'owners'.

Plus, they feature 'VibraPurr sounds' which feel "like real purring". Incredible!

Both toys are powered with AA batteries. Cats cost $109.99 (£ 81.51) and dogs cost $129.99 (£96.33).
