Amidst the cancelled weddings, festivals and parties, one thing that most of us have had to wave goodbye to in 2020 is our holidays. So it makes sense that we'd want to make the most of our time off in 2021.

Well, good news. Thanks to some well placed bank holidays, you can actually turn 28 days of annual leave into 53 days off.

So, what do you need to book off?

First up is the April bank holiday. If you book off Monday 29th March - Thursday 1st April, followed by Tuesday 6th - Friday 9th April, due to the bank holidays on the 2nd and 5th, you'll be snapping up 16 days off and only using eight days of annual leave. Result!

Meanwhile, the May bank holiday also offers up an opportunity for extra days off. Thanks to two bank holidays in May (3rd and 31st), you can turn eight days of annual leave into 19 days off.

All you need to do is book Tuesday 4th to Friday 9th May, followed by Monday 1st to Friday 4th June.

Later in the year at the end of summer, four days of annual leave will give you nine days off.

HR Director Rachel Evans at the health and wellness brand, GearHungry.com, explained: "By now, you should be getting the hang of how to make the most of your annual leave, and as it's now August, you're probably looking to get away and enjoy some hot weather abroad.

"Make the most of your time off by once again stretching four days of annual leave into nine consecutive days off.

"The summer bank holiday falls on Monday 30th of August, so you'll be looking to take you time off from Tuesday 31st August to Friday 3rd September, giving you nine days away from your desk from 28th August to 5th September."

We all know how gloomy the post Christmas period can be, but there is a way to turn three days of annual leave into 10 across the festive season.

As the substitute bank holidays fall on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th, if you book off Wednesday 29th to Friday 31st December, you can bag 10 consecutive days off!

Just be sure to book them in asap, before everyone else cottons on...
