Hangovers Have Officially Been Ruled An Illness By A German Court

We can't come out, we're sick.

A German court has ruled hangovers are an actual illness - and we are all for it.

Anyone that tells us we are poorly when we have self-inflicted headaches and nausea is a friend of ours.

Did you hear that office boss? Yes, you, the ones that makes us explain ourselves every time we are a smidge slower than usual at work due to a heavy evening on the town. A hangover means we're ill, OK?

It has all come about because the makers of an anti-hangover drink that claims to help the morning after a heavy session was taken to court in Frankfurt.

The firm was ruled against for making illegal health claims, as the court decided that no food products, including drinks, could prevent or treat illness, thereby labelling hangovers as an actual real life sickness.

Cough. We can't come out, we're sick.

The superior regional court's ruling said: "Information about a food product cannot ascribe any properties for preventing, treating or healing a human illness or give the impression of such a property.

"By an illness, one should understand even small or temporary disruptions to the normal state or normal activity of the body."

This therefore includes tiredness, nausea and headaches often associated with hangovers, which the unnamed company claimed it could cure.

So while we can all feel fabulous when we stroll into work next and tell everyone we genuinely are ill without a trickle of guilt, we can also feel slightly aggrieved that none of those wondrous sounding hangover drinks are going to do us a jot of good.

Sigh. We guess we can't have it all.

We'll just have to stick to the age old cure of a fizzy drink and a full on carb fest. Hello cheese toasty, our old friend.
