Dog owners, get your aprons at the ready.

A Great Doggy Bake Off has just launched. It will be taking place virtually throughout lockdown, to see who can bake the very best treats for their dog.

The Great Doggy Bake Off will be taking place over the next four weeks, with challenges for participants to take part in using a series of tasty recipes for dogs.

Organised by doggy travel platform Dog Furiendly, in collaboration with dog bakery Doggy Desserts and pet food company Burns Pet Nutrition, all recipes are certified to be both safe and tasty for dogs.

And the fun part is that dog owners could be in with a chance of winning Star Baker - sorry, we mean Star Barker -- just like another...errr.. similarly named Channel 4 show.

The winners could end up with weekly prizes, too, including Doggy Dessert and Burns Pet Nutrition goodies.

And at the end of the four week programme, one owner will be crowned Great Doggy Bake Off Champion.

Could it be you?

Recipes will be shared weekly on the platform's social media channels, and dog owners will be asked to submit their attempts via their own profiles, on either Facebook or Instagram, using the #greatdoggybakeoff hashtag.

"We'll definitely be giving out a big virtual 'paw-shake' to the best, but also celebrating some fantastic fails (because we can't all be like Paul and Prue!)".

The Great Doggy Bake Off has been created to celebrate human's best friends, the pup, especially in times where we need our furry companions for mental support and comfort, like lockdown.

Research from the Kennel Club found that 91 per cent of long term dog owners said their pet had a positive impact on their mental health.

Founder of Dog Furiendly, Adele Pember said: "We're excited to entertain our nation of dog owners over the four-week lockdown.

She added: "Dogs across the UK have been providing owners with so much unconditional love and friendship during lockdown, so it's great to be able to return the favour by baking some tasty dog treats!"

Adriana and her two dogs Korey and Kasey from Glasgow, are one team who have signed up to the Great Doggy Bake Off.

Adriana said: "We are very excited about The Great Doggy Bake Off! It's a great way to treat our pups to home made goodies and it's an activity we can do separately or together as a family!

"In this new world, where we spend so much more time indoors, it's very helpful to have a weekly activity to do: something to look forward to. It's also a great way to boost our creative mind and distract ourselves from the daily worries!"
