A woman was left in shock after a man she had been briefly dating asked for a refund on the "food and drinks" he bought on their dates.

Sharing a screengrab of the messages on social media, Alex Colboth, from Wisconsin, said: "It's the audacity for me."

In the shared messages, the man said: "Hi Alex, hope you're doing well. Would you mind letting me know what your Venmo is?

"The reason I ask is since you and I won't be seeing each other anymore, it's only fair to ask for equal payment from you for the dates we went on.

"I believe it was 3 separate times we went out bars/restaurants where I paid for us both each time.

"I'd say $35 (£25) is more than fair for your food and drinks that I got during those dates. I view you as a fair girl, I hope you'll consider reimbursing me. Thanks!"

And other Twitter users were in shock at the texts, with one writing: "Dating is like gambling. you put your time, money, whatever into it and sometimes it doesn't workout and you leave empty handed. you made the decision to spend money and now you're mad you didn't win? the casino don't owe you sh**."

Some users were in disbelief that a number of people who had commented in support of the man in question, with one person adding: "I have never personally done this, but I think it's ok.

"CK managed to say something uncomfortable, was honest about what he was hoping to accomplish and did it respectfully. I think it's wack y'all poor shaming this dude. Y'all forget how many people outta work, cold and hungry?"

Alex didn't seem to be fazed by the text, however, after she later tweeted: "How I'm going to sleep tonight knowing I still have that $35" alongside a GIF of Disney character, Boo falling straight to sleep!
