Netflix's Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel certainly gave us a good insight into the rather grimy establishment where Elisa Lam went missing.
During the documentary, the 700-room hotel is described as rather simple, dirty and filled with untoward visitors.
And a snoop through the hotel's reviews reveals that, according to some guests, things didn't get much better in the years that followed Elisa's disappearance.

Revealing they didn't know about the hotel's history until after they stayed there, one visitor, who rated the hotel one star out of a possible five, wrote: "It was dirty, there was no AC, and vagrants were all around the hotel."
Meanwhile, another offered the same rating and wrote: "I am only giving this hotel 1 star because you cannot give it 0 stars."
The scathing review continued: "This is the dirtiest hotel I have ever been to. They claim to have newly refurbished rooms, but the room I was given had a window screen with many holes, the bathtub had not been finished, and the whole room was dirty and very dingy...Do not stay here at any cost."
"Wow, I've never paid over $100 for a hotel room and been treated so badly," a third one star reviewer wrote, branding their whole stay "complete trash".
Rather spookily, a fourth penned: "Don't stay here alone. Just don't do it. Please listen to me and don't do it.

"I stayed here a couple years ago, shortly before the Elisa incident, and have been absolutely mad since."
Yikes.
Of course, a degree of distain is expected towards the premises, especially given the public interest in the Elisa Lam case, and suspicion towards the hotel with regard to her disappearance.

And alongside the bad, there are some more balanced reviews on offer, too. In fact, the hotel averages a rating of 3.1 stars, overall (and that's including the trolls who haven't actually visited).
"Decent cheap hotel right in the near of downtown L.A," wrote one reviewer, after staying at the premises.
While another reviewer even branded the building a "hidden gem", and a fellow traveller went as far as to call the hotel "beautiful", despite some small gripes they had with it.
"Beautiful hotel, although a bit run down. But for the location and the price it's worth it," they wrote.
They weren't the only ones with positive thoughts on the building's aesthetic - well, at least the foyer.
The hotel, now rebranded Stay On Main, is currently closed, but there are plans for a grand re-opening, soon, following a refurbishment.

Of course, this means many of the old reviews could now be null and void, and the hotel could be a much more enjoyable experience than it once was.
We're still not sure the site of an infamous death is on the top of our bucket list, but you do you!
