A bride has been called out on Reddit after not inviting her niece to her wedding because of her appearance.

The bride's sister took to the viral news and discussion website after finding out that she had pretended her wedding would be child-free to avoid inviting her step-niece, who has scars on her neck and face after an accident.

Taking to the AITA thread, she asked whether she was in the wrong for confronting her sister about the event, which she was told would not allow children.

The poster then revealed that her 15-year-old stepdaughter, Jane, has a burn scar on her neck and over half of her face, due to an accident that took place four years ago.

She added: "She's already gotten tons of insensitive comments but to me and her dad she's still the most beautiful soul. My family's been supportive and loving towards Jane."

Revealing that her sister and now-husband got married a few days previously, she added: "They told me and my husband they decided the wedding will be child free. Meaning Jane couldn't come. They asked if that'd be okay and we said yeah! absolutely, we respect the bride and grooms rules."

However, when the couple turned up at the wedding, they noticed it was full of kids.

"My husband and I got to the venue and first thing we noticed was kids...Kids of all ages all around the venue. My husband literally stopped walking. He paused for few seconds, looked at me then let go of my hand and said he was outta there.

"He walked out but I stood still when mom saw me and signalled me to come join the family. But I didn't go. I asked one of the guests who had his kid with him and he said this event allowed kids. I was seeing red at this point cause I was fooled into leaving Jane at home and coming with my husband only."

The poster then revealed she went straight over to confront her sister and husband, to ask them why they wouldn't allow their niece to attend.

"Then I blew up at them asking why they lied about this being a child free wedding when it wasn't. I asked them in front of everyone why they decided to basically lie to me and my husband and get us to exclude our daughter?

"Why? Is Jane somehow different from the other kids who showed up?

"My sister tried to calm me down but I bluntly asked if It was cause her step-niece has a burn scar/visible injury that she and her husband were too ashamed of."

The sister then adds that her mum tried to get her to leave the stage, but that she proceeded to call the bride and groom "awful, insensitive people with no respect for me nor their niece."

"My sister started crying saying she would never and that I misunderstood and my BIL begged me to go sit but I refused and said I wasn't interested in celebrating/supporting their marriage after this."

However, she was then told off for being "out of line" and "disrespectful" to the bride, while also being accused of ruining the wedding, finally being told that the decision not to invite their niece was the groom's decision.

Others took to Reddit to share their thoughts on the event, with one commenter saying: "NTA. They deserved every bit of embarrassment."

Another wrote: "Yep. Just showed all their friends and family the true versions of themselves."

A third wrote: "Exactly, everyone should know exactly what they did. Sister probably isn't even upset she did it, just that everyone knows why."
