A bride has come under fire for sending her guests a strict set of rules along with an invite to her big day.

The A4 list has been shared widely on social media after being posted online by the bride's cousin, who is from Melbourne, Australia.

The demands include asking guests to pay for their own food, alcohol and a slice of cake.

In the list, the bride outlines when guests will have time to smoke.

She also banned bright colours and the use of phones or cameras during the ceremony and reception.

The bride asks the guests to "wear something comfortable" and adds there is "no need for jackets and ball gowns".

"Ladies wear heels by all means but please bring a spare pair of flats if you are likely to need to ditch them, no need to be wearing 6 inch heels when the photographs are of your face," she adds.

The bride also included instructions on how to donate money towards the couple's honeymoon via a fundraising page.

She says the couple "do not expect gifts from anyone" but adds the couple will be travelling to Sydney for their honeymoon and have "many fun activities planned".

Posting the list on social media, the guest wrote: "I love my family and all, but my beloved cousin who was 19 at the time decided to have a wedding, in which she sent everyone an ESSAY of rules with the invitations.

"Not only did you have to pay for flights and accommodation if you lived in a different state, but you also had to pay for your own dinner for the wedding.

"Oh and get this, on the invitation it read: 'If your name wasn't on the invitation, assume you're not invited".

"My dad received an invite but not his girlfriend, so we just 'assumed' only dad was invited and not his partner.

"Not too sure you could have had a cheaper (and bossier) wedding unless you had it in your backyard. Check out the 'rules' page for a good laugh."
