If lockdown has you pining for the sights and sounds of Ibiza then you might want to take inspo from a couple who spent quarantine building their very own nightclub in their back garden.

Based on the much-loved club night Glitterbox on the party island, the white-themed bar, which cost just under £2,000, is fully stocked with cocktail-making essentials and a draught beer machine.

Laura Harmes, 42, and partner Mike Braid, 50, had the brainwave for the project in autumn 2019 - but when lockdown came into play, they knew that it was now or never.

With lockdown gradually easing up in Scotland, the couple have had the chance to enjoy a few socially distanced bevvies in the at-home bar, celebrating Mike's 50th birthday.

Dad-of-two Mike said: "It was just a wee idea we had back in October.

"I started just before Christmas but once the weather turned we kind of left it, and when lockdown came we battered on with it and finished it a few weeks ago.

"It was Laura's idea to call it 'Glitterbox'. We have been to this club in Ibiza many times over the years. We all have a great love for Ibiza.

"It's got a double fridge at the end of the bar, with beers, cocktails, spirits, and a draught beer machine. It's turned out really well. It went viral and has just gone crazy."

"We've had comments from DJs saying 'can we come and perform in your garden?'," said Mike.

"Glitterbox emailed as well saying it was fab - they're really taken with it."

Laura, who works as a nurse, has been working throughout the pandemic.

The couple and their sons Liam, 11, and Kieran, 18 were originally due to take a holiday to America but are now happy to be able to see their family for a few al fresco in the back garden of their home in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

Mike, who runs a sign business, said: "We had some people round but we had to book them in slots - social distancing of course.

"We were supposed to be going to Vegas and New York around this time but it was good we got to see our parents."

He added: "The kids love it. Liam loves playing the barman to his mum and I.

"Kieran loves it too. He can't wait to be able to DJ at it for his friends and family when we are eventually allowed to."

What an amazing final result! Worthy of the White Isle, for sure.
