Well, that was awkward.

It wouldn't be a working day during lockdown without a video chat.

From schools to businesses, people around the world have taken to video conferencing apps to take part in lectures, seminars and meetings.

But with new technology comes the potential for slip-ups.

One student was left very red-faced when she assumed her Zoom chats were private, only to discover her teacher could read every word she was writing.

Like many students, Faith was tuning in to online lectures through the video app.

Assuming her chats with fellow students were private, she decided to send a few messages to pals, to keep herself entertained.

Faith was left red-faced when she discovered her professor could read every message she shared during her Zoom lectures (

But the cheeky student was mortified to receive a scathing email from her teacher, informing her that every message was visible.

Oh, Faith. It's not like passing a folded note in school, you know.

The furious email read:

"Dear Faith, I am reaching out to inform you that I can see everything you write in the chat discussion.

The scathing email read:
The scathing email read:

"My class session is not the appropriate time to be sending messages like 'I'm a bougie a**, rachet a**, freak b***h...'

The email continues: "It's very disruptive to the class and I do NOT condone this kind of behaviour during my lectures. I strongly advise you to keep the inappropriate comments to yourself from now on or else it will jeopardise your final grade for this course."

DAMN.

Faith shared the scathing message to her Twitter account. The post blew up and now has a whopping 2.2million views.

The shame-faced student had a message for fellow college-goers: "To my fellow college students: Apparently, your professors have the power to enable all convos on Zoom. I also had multiple professors quoting my tweet to confirm it."

She added: "Y'all might as well send your sorry email before they confront you and yes I apologized to that lady."

Twitter users were either left in hysterics or thoroughly shook.

"Wait a minute, professors can see private messages?" asked one in disbelief.

"Wow. Just wow why did nobody tell me this?" asked another.

While a thoroughly amused commentator wrote: "LMAOO this is the one!!"

Going by the comments, a few more stern chats between teachers and students may be about to happen.
