A husband was left utterly mortified after he bought a birthday card for his wife, but a very rude one turned up instead.
Greg Morgan, 44, from Wales, was stunned when he opened the personalised card, expecting to read a sweet message, but instead, the words inside were quite different.
The message was supposed to read 'happy birthday to the wife I want to annoy for the rest of my days'. But instead, Greg was alarmed to see a picture of a slice of toast topped with alphabetti spaghetti reading: 'Happy Birthday m*nge face'.
Greg had purchased the card from Brainbox Candy, who apologised for the mix up and said the order "must have slipped through the net".
"I tend to leave things very much to the last minute and rather than a run-of-the-mill card I thought I'd treat her and get a bit of a bespoke design one," said Greg.
"When it came and I opened it, I just looked at it and I thought 'oh my god'. I know I like to send funny ones but I can't send that one to her, I'd get a massive slap.
"At no point did I want to call my wife m*nge face. It's not a word I particularly would ever use if I'm honest, especially round her.
"She puts her cards up on display. Oh my god can you imagine her parents, who are in their 70s, coming round and seeing that? No.
"It's a word that can make people feel a bit funny. I play football so there's all that 'lads' culture and my vocabulary can be blue but there are certain words, that being one of them and the 'c' word being another one, that overstep the mark."
Luckily, both Greg and wife Angela found the mix up pretty funny. "I contacted the company and I explained the situation to the lady on the phone," explained Greg.
"She apologised and they sent out the original one I wanted."
Angela added: "I got a happy birthday card, just not the one I was supposed to. He does call me a few things but he doesn't call me that.
"When I saw that word on the card I just burst out laughing because I wasn't expecting to see it.
When Greg said 'this is what turned up' and he was quite serious I just thought it was so funny and burst out laughing.
"It was a spectacular mix-up. I know a lot of people have ordered cards and they've come with the wrong name and things like that but this was just really funny. I did think 'does anybody really order that card?'"
A Brainbox Candy spokesman said: "Really sorry to hear that they received the wrong card.
"We dispatch thousands of funny cards and gifts each year and our customer service and accuracy is renowned.
"We are human, however, so I guess this order must have slipped through the net, so I'm glad that she saw the funny side of it.
"I hope she has forgiven him and if nothing else gets her own back on his birthday! We have some suitable cheeky cards should she like one."
At least Greg and Angela saw the funny side!
