A man who wanted to "spruce up" his house in time for Christmas has had a bit of a shock when he realised the inflatable Santa he purchased was 25 foot. Sleigh whattt?

Matty James bought the £100 decoration from eBay thinking it was just eight foot tall, but as he began to inflate it, he realised he'd got a lot more than he'd bargained for.

The originally flaccid Santa Claus grew until the whopper towered over his house, leaving his neighbours in hysterics, but it was snow joke and left Matty in disbelief.

Matty, 32, is now trying to get used to seeing a Father Christmas head looming outside his bedroom window.

He explained that when he put the decoration up earlier this month, it blocked his bedroom and living room windows.

Matty, from Southport, Merseyside, said: "I ordered it a month ago off eBay but didn't realise it would be massive or as high as my house.

"It's easy, you just blow it up and it's done. I just wasn't expecting it to be massive and as high as my house. I thought it would be about 8ft tall but only realised it was much bigger than that when I laid it all out.

"I remember thinking it looked weird and then all of a sudden, once I started putting the air in it, it kept growing and growing. I did wonder if it was ever going to stop."

"When I woke up in the morning I looked out and his head would eclipse the window. Downstairs in the front room, when you opened the curtains, there was a big Santa bum in your face."

But while Matty can't quite get used to his giant Saint Nick, his neighbours have been rather enjoying the monstrosity.

He added: "I'm known in the street for doing wacky things and when the neighbours came out they were all laughing their heads off, everyone was in hysterics.

But, when winds started to whip up, he decided to pull it down temporarily, as nightclub owner Matty was concerned his house would take off, just like in Disney's Up.

Matty said he needed five neighbours to help him tether the huge Santa down with ropes as the wind started to pick up.

Matty said: "As it started getting bigger and bigger the wind started picking up so I was starting to get a bit scared. I was nearly flying across Southport with it.

"Southport's near the coast - I didn't want my house being taken into the sky by this giant Santa."

But Matty had warmed to the gigantic Father Christmas and now plans to put it back up ASAP more securely so he can oversee the festivities.

'Tis the season to feel festive and all that, even if it means not being able to see out of your window...
