An American TikToker has caused quite a stir on social media after she tried Caffè Nero for the very first time. But it wasn't the cappuccinos or cupcakes that got everyone talking, it was actually her pronunciation of the coffee chain itself.
Reagan Yorke is currently touring UK coffee shops after moving from LA to London. She posts video reviews of each coffee shop to her 2.9m followers.
The second day of her UK coffee shop tour took Reagan to Caffé Nero, which she pronounces in her voiceover as "Caffè Naroooo". Hmmmm.
You can watch Reagan's controversial video below:
For a lot of people in the comments, Reagan's innocent faux pas was quite triggering. "Noooo the way that you pronounced 'Nero' actually made me sick," said one TikTok user.
"Why did she say naroo," a second person quipped.
A third commenter posted: "I'm sorry. CAFFEE NAROO?! Nah. Not only are you filming strangers in the U.K. but you're also slandering our cafes."
Similarly, another TikToker shared: "This entire video made me mad."
While someone else typed: "My hated for Americans grows more and more everyday."
Caffè Nero is actually Italian for "black coffee" and it should be pronounced as though it rhymes with "hero".
When trying to explain to her non-British followers where Caffè Nero fits in with all the other high street cafes and confectionary shops, Reagan compared it to Dunkin' Donuts. "Everyone keeps telling me this is basically like the UK's version of Dunkin'", she said.
Many commenters were quick to point out that UK has 12 Dunkin' Donuts stores, including one in London where Reagan now lives.
"The UK's version of dunkin... is dunkin," one viewer responded.
A second user added: "THERE'S NO 'UK VERSION' OF ANYTHING. We literally have that and Starbucks," referencing Reagan's third tour date at Starbucks where she "found out" that the UK "only has one Starbucks". Starbucks actually has 1,025 stores in the UK.
"You could have just gone to Dunkin' in the UK," suggested a third commenter.
And just in case you fancy keeping up with Reagan's tour, for her first trip she visited Costa, which she explained as being "the Starbucks of the UK."
We'll let you decide how to feel about that comment!
