Woman Sparks Debate On Whether You Should Re-Hang Clothes In Changing Rooms

We all hate changing rooms but none of us hate it more than those who work in them, so surely we'd do whatever we can to make it easier.

A woman has sparked a debate on whether customers should re-hang clothes when they are leaving a changing room or leave it to staff.

Everyone knows how frustrating it can be when you have a pile of unwanted clothes in a changing room without a hanger on and you have to go through them all and put them on one.

However, most of us do it to help out the staff and although the positioning of the clothes on the hanger might not be perfect it does help the staff out a little bit.

However, one woman doesn't seem to see why a shop assistant wouldn't accept un-hanged clothes from her.

Posting on parenting site Mumsnet the woman described a recent experience where a shop assistant asked her to put the clothes on the hanger before giving them to her.

She wrote: "I took four pieces of clothing to the changing room, selected two, and was trying to hand over the remaining two to the staff in the changing room alongwith the hangers when I was told to 'hanger the clothes and then return' by the staff.

"Is it normal to hang the discarded clothes while out shopping and was I being U [unreasonable] in handing those over to the staff without neatly hanging them back on [sic]?"

Of course the post sparked a massive backlash with all of the 101 comments disagreeing with the original poster.

One user wrote: "I'm surprised they told you to do it, but yes, I'd say it is expected. If everyone was too lazy to rehang it it would cause queues to build up at the changing rooms."

A second added: "So you think the staff are being unreasonable to ask you to put the clothes back on the hangers?

"I think your being lazy not to. Why wouldn't you put the clothes back on the hangers? It wouldn't even occur to me not to. You took them off, you put them back on[sic]."

Another added: "There's a huge difference between not putting something back on a hanger which is clearly just normal basic manners and not hanging it in the fancy way the shop wants.

"To say you won't do the first because you can't do the second is like saying I won't put mugs and plates on a tray in a self clear cafe because someone will have to wash them up anyway[sic]."

A fourth user explained how they got revenge on customers who didn't hang their clothes back up. They wrote: "I've worked in retail and when customers would do this to me I'd take one item, and then one hanger and very slowly do it while they were left with handfuls of stuff!

"Ha ha. They hated it but no one treats me like a slave! It 's common (maybe not so common) curtesy [sic]!"
