The Internet Has Found A New Cute Animal Obsession And We’re So On Board

Move over cats - it’s all about baby donkeys now.

It's often been said, that the Internet is much like ancient Egypt, full of conspiracy theories and the worshipping of cats. But recently, we have found a new obsession - baby donkeys.

After finding out about the existence of cow puppies, the overwhelming cute offspring of our milk-serving friends, we craved more. So, continuing on this democratic trajectory to spread love to all animals in a landscape that has been limited to dogs and cats, baby donkeys are here to demand our attention.

This has likely been spurred by recent wholesome stories that have touched our collective hearts. Last September, Donkey Bond was taken in and bottle-fed by Alison Wiseman after he had been rejected by his mother donkey. He celebrated his first birthday with his many dog-friends, eating carrot cake and wearing a brand new coat that was specially-made for him.

A couple of weeks ago, we also saw the story of a baby donkey who was adopted and is being raised by sheep after its mother died 24 hours after she gave birth. Kim Brickell, assistant manager at the farm which the donkey Roberta was born, told Horse & Hound that they struggled to find a surrogate for the donkey so she was introduced to the friendly young sheep Lamby and Snowy who quickly bonded with donkey Roberta.

"Lamby and Snowy do a lot of the mothering instinct for her, they teach her how to graze and things like that. Roberta has dropped down to three bottle feeds a day and is doing really well - she adapted to the goats milk like she'd been on it from the start," said Kim.

Technically, they are called foals or colts (like horses.), and with over 22 thousand posts tagged on Instagram under #babydonkeys, it looks like pictures of these animals are here to stay. For the next cuteness overload, check out baby giraffes.
