Penguins Allowed To Roam Around Aquarium After It Closes Over Coronavirus

As the coronavirus outbreak continues to grow, many public places across the globe have been temporarily closing in a bid to halt the spread.

And although it's a pretty uncertain time for us, one species is making the most of the situation. Yep, penguins in a Chicago aquarium have been enjoying free rein of the entire building.

Shedd Aquarium, which is currently closed to the public, took to Twitter yesterday to share a video of what the penguins have been up to behind closed doors.

One of them can be seen having a guided tour of other areas of the aquarium - and the adorable creature looks absolutely mesmerised.

"Some of the penguins went on a field trip to meet other animals at Shedd," they wrote on Twitter.

"Wellington seemed most interested in the fishes in Amazon Rising! The black-barred silver dollars also seemed interested in their unusual visitor."

But, that wasn't all the penguins got up to.

They were even spotted roaming around the information desk and exploring other areas of the building.

In three further videos, the birds can be seen on quite the adventure, with Shedd explaining: "The adventure continues!

"This morning, Edward and Annie explored Shedd's rotunda. They are a bonded pair of rockhopper penguins, which means they are together for nesting season.

"Springtime is nesting season for penguins at Shedd, and this year is no different!

"Penguins like Edward and Annie will begin to build their nests next week. Join us digitally for nesting coverage! In the meantime, we will be sharing lots of different animal updates (and yes, Wellington will return!)

"While this may be a strange time for us, these days feel normal for animals at Shedd.

"Our caregivers are constantly providing new experiences for the animals to explore and express their natural behaviors with. Let us know what penguin activities you would like to see"
