Shannen Doherty, 48, has sadly revealed she is battling stage four cancer, three years after getting the all clear.

The Charmed actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, but went into remission in 2017. Now, the actress has revealed she has been battling the disease once again privately, after it returned early last year.

Shannen, who played Brenda in the original 90210, shared her news on Good Morning America, revealing she wanted to keep her struggle private. However, she decided to to share it before it became public in court papers as part of an ongoing trial in which she is suing her insurance company State Farm.

"It's going to come out in a matter of days or week that I am Stage 4, my cancer came back and that's why I am here," she told GMA in an emotional interview.

"It's a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways," she said, adding: "There are definitely days when I say 'why me?' and then there are days when I go 'why not me? Who else? Who else besides me deserves this? None of us.'"

Shannen said she was concerned about how she was going to tell her mum and her husband photographer Kurt Iswarienko. She added: "I'm petrified. I'm pretty scared."

Last year, Shannen joined her former 90210 cast members for a six episode reboot of the hit teen drama which ran from 1990 to 2000.

She reunited with Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Brian Austin Green, Ian Ziering, and Gabrielle Carteris for the one-off series, which included a tribute to the only missing original cast member, Luke Perry, who died from a stroke in March 2019.

"It was so weird for me, to be diagnosed and then for someone who was seemingly healthy to go first. It was really shocking, and the least I could do was to do that show. I still haven't done enough in my opinion."
