A woman has posted an emotional video claiming she was forced to leave her local gym for 'flashing' her belly.

Tearful Shelby posted on her TikTok account @shelby.bellz to explain her side of the story.

You can watch the video here.

"So I just went to the gym," she explained, wiping tears from her face. "The lady at the front desk said that they have a policy, you're not allowed to wear sports bras to the gym. That you can't be showing your belly.

"She said: 'It's fine for this time, but just so you know for next time."

Shelby then showed how little stomach she was showing in her high-waist leggings and sports bra.

"I went to do my workout, but 15 minutes in when I was on the treadmill, the programme co-ordinator for the gym came up to me and asked me to leave," Shelby claimed.

"I was so embarrassed."

When someone in the comments wrote: "I get why you're upset, but most gyms have a dress code. Now if other girls are wearing sports bras and they don't kick them out, that's a huge problem," Shelby decided to film her response.

"There are two things that are problematic about how this interaction went down," she said.

"And neither of them have anything to do with their policy which is their dress code. Their dress code is what it is, I can't change that, whatever."

Shelby then claimed: "Problem one was how the lady at the front desk spoke to me. First of all, I was like, 'Oh, we're not allowed to wear a sports bra?' and she said, 'Well, we can't just have our bellies hanging out.'

"It was a belittling tone. So that, already, is not okay.

"Problem two is that she told me it was okay. That it was okay for this time, but for next time just wear something else. So I went into the gym with my wristband on that she gave me, saying it was okay for me to go in this time. And then having someone come up to me when I'm 15 minutes into a workout, where I'm working on the treadmill, sweat pouring down my face, like...what?"

In a third video, she added: "That was only the third time I had been to that gym. For some people it takes so much courage to go to the gym. And to have that action go down when I'd been there less than a week. It's not something anyone would want to go through.

"I tagged fat shaming because I genuinely believe if that had been a smaller woman, they wouldn't have said 'we can't have our bellies hanging out.' I genuinely believe that wouldn't have been said."

Shelby believed the same comments wouldn't have been made to a slimmer woman (

Shelby's original video has since got well over 300,000 views, with many women rushing to the comments to offer her sympathy.

"Oh honey, do not be embarrassed," one woman wrote. "They should be embarrassed. I would name and shame them.

"Don't cry, just remember you're beautiful and strong."

"Time for a new gym, honey," another wrote. "I'm so sorry that happened to you."

"You gotta find a different gym, girl," said a third. "You do not deserve to feel that way."
