We've often lay in bed trying to get an extra five minutes - but now, a fabulous new invention may keep our heads against the pillow all day long.

With so many gyms being forced to close during the coronavirus pandemic, one inventor has created an entire gym that you can fit under your bed.

Colin Montgomery from Northern Ireland has designed apparatus that includes pull-up bars, weights, and a gym mat.

And with so many of us currently stuck in cramped flats, it's the perfect way to keep fit without cluttering up limited space.

Colin had the idea for the Pivot Bed after he cycled the length of South America, and was forced to stop exercising at home because he no longer had the space.

After toying with a few ideas and making a few sketches, the Pivot Bed was born.

"The answer was right in front of me. We had this big, rarely used bed in our spare room. We needed that space for guests, but it didn't mean we couldn't use it when it was unoccupied," said Colin.

The Pivot Bed can be easily switched between its two positions in a matter of seconds, due to the strong struts which take the vast majority of the weight.

And the structure has something no matter what sort of workout you fancy. For strength training enthusiasts, there's an optional power rack module which installs onto the bottom of the bed frame, while there is also space for an exercise bike, treadmill or rowing machine.

Inspired by the space that he had created, Colin, together with his wife Patricia and two friends David Middlemiss and Robin Feeley, created Pivot Fitness.

"Pivot was created to help you achieve your fitness goals at home, whatever your space.

We provide simple, smart and strong solutions to improve wellbeing and enable everyone to attain their fitness goals. Pivot is for anyone who needs practical and inspirational space to exercise at home," David has explained.

Robin added: "Because of the pandemic we've all had months of being cooped up in small spaces, trying to work with the added demands of kids and home-schooling. It's stressful, and we know we need exercise to balance all of this out. We believe this bed will really help people to care for their physical and mental health."

If you fancy getting your hands on the Pivot Bed, you can now donate to their Kickstarter here.
