Woman Left With Swelling And Dermatitis After Suffering Severe Reaction To Hair Dye Days Before Wedding

Always do your patch test!

A woman was left with swelling and dermatitis after having a reaction to hair dye just days before attending her dad's wedding.

Riann Ferris, 23, from Texas, decided to dye her hair brunette the day before she travelled to the wedding in Michigan. But she had a nightmare ordeal after suffering from a reaction to the dye.

You can watch a video below:

Riann explained how her scalp was immediately itchy after rinsing the dye out, meanwhile she suffered from a rash and swelling the following morning, which worsened as the hours went by.

Added to that, Riann recalled how she even had a chemical burn on top of the swelling.

"My scalp bled puss for days - it was very painful and uncomfortable," she said.

Once the reaction on her scalp had eased, it began to spread throughout her body and Riann was covered in contact dermatitis.

Doctors gave Riann a steroid shot and a shot of Benadryl, along with oral medication, to treat the reaction. And while Riann says most of the swelling only lasted about seven days, she is still dealing with dermatitis two months later.

She says she isn't sure what caused the reaction, especially since she has used this specific hair dye before without any issues.

"My skin wasn’t 100 per cent normal, but I was just happy I wouldn’t look like Quasimodo in the wedding pictures!" She said.

"Everyone laughed it off with me as it was extremely entertaining to see my face look so different, but I felt super uncomfortable and insecure.

"I have always used this product since I was 15 years old, and I have never had any reaction - this was a complete shock."

We're so glad Riann is on the road to recovery!
