TikTok Doctor Reveals Dangerous Reason You Shouldn't Take Paracetamol To Treat A Hangover

TikTok Doctor Reveals Dangerous Reason You Shouldn't Take Paracetamol To Treat A Hangover

Time to find a new hangover cure ASAP.

When we wake up with a cracking headache after a big night out, a lot of us will reach over to the paracetamol packet for some relief. But a TikTok doctor has revealed that this might not be the best hangover cure.

Dr Karan Rangarjan, a surgical doctor and lecturer at Sunderland University, had over four million followers on TikTok and is on a mission to debunk myths and share his medical knowledge for the benefit of his viewers.

One of Dr Karan Rangarjan’s viral videos addresses how you should never mix paracetamol and alcohol.

To find out why the two are not the best combo, check out the video below.

Even though paracetamol is a common painkiller used to treat pains including headaches, mixing it with alcohol can severely damage liver cells as the video explains.

As the TikTok doctor highlights, both paracetamol and alcohol produce “toxic products” when broken down in the body.

This means that when taken together, the body may not be able to produce enough glutathione quickly, a chemical that neutralises the toxic compounds quickly that can lead to a negative impact on the liver.

Instead of paracetamol, Dr Karan recommends taking ibuprofen to ease that hangover head.

People have been obsessed with the video which has so far gained over 974,300 views and 92,900 likes.

Many of the comments on the TikTok say that users weren’t aware of the possible consequences and have mixed the two substances before.

“Not me taking like 3 paracetamols with friends before drinking,” TikTok user said.

“Oof I always take some pcmol before I go to sleep when drunk,” another person commented.

Someone else wrote: “So me popping paras daily for my stress headaches and chasing them with wine to combat stress once a week is a bad idea. Who knew”.

Another commenter exclaimed: “I wish I knew this before!!!”.

One TikTok user said: “Oh god why hasn’t anyone said this before, surprised my liver still works”.

The video has led to viewers vowing to change their ways with one person commenting: “I’m never doing that again”.

If you’ve been mixing paracetamol and alcohol then, it’s fair to say that it’s time to find another hangover cure.
