Peaky Blinders has won the award for The Best Drama at this year's National Television Awards.

The BBC series triumphed beating the likes of Our Girl, Call the Midwife, Doctor Who and Casualty.

In 2017 Peaky Blinders was nominated in the Best Period Drama category and Cillian Murphy (Tommy Shelby) was up for Best Drama Performance.

This win came as no surprise to many fans, especially considering the eagerly-anticipated fifth season is due to hit our screens very soon.

Days ago filming officially came to a close meaning that we're one step closer to getting our next fix of the Shelby family and all the drama that comes with them.

A post on the Peaky Blinders Twitter account confirmed filming had concluded, much the delight of eager fans, who have been patiently waiting for the news since the cameras started rolling back in September.

On January 17, a photo was shared of Cillian Murphy and director Anthony Byrne on the first day of filming several months back, the tweet said: "Tomorrow we wrap filming series 5 of #PeakyBlinders."

One Twitter user commented: "I can barely contain myself!! When's it on??" Another wrote: "I can't wait to see Tommy back on my TV screen."

Someone else said: "Release season 5 by the order of the Peaky Fuckin' Blinders!"

A fourth added excitedly: "Cannot waaaaait for series 5!!!"
