New True-Crime On The Zodiac Killer Will Shake You To Your Core

This is set to be a very dark watch...

A new docuseries is launching which will be all about the Zodiac Killer, and it looks in equal parts fascinating and chilling.

Based on the New York Times best-selling book with the same title, The Most Dangerous Animal of All, a brand new four episode series from US FX Network is set to document the story of Gary L. Stewart - who was searching for his long-lost father when he claims to have discovered evidence that he's one of America's most infamous serial killers.

Gary came into contact with his birth mother for the first time aged 39 after being adopted, and was shown a mugshot of his father that she'd kept.

The documentary will show how this then sent him down a long, dark path, in which he discovered some of his father Earl Van Best Jr.'s rather dubious possible links to at least five horrific murders.

The Zodiac Killer became feared across California in the late 60s to early 70s, and made a name for himself after sending detailed letters to police and newspapers, describing his crimes, all signed off with the zodiac symbol.

He also sent ciphers (which are basically encrypted messages) out into the public domain, in which he claims to have hidden proof of his identity - brazenly messing with those who were hunting him down. The police could only decode one out of four.

While the killer has been officially confirmed to have attacked four men and three women between the ages of 16 and 29 - with two of the men surviving attempted murder - this is only a small percentage of the 37 deaths he has taken responsibility for.

No murder has been officially linked to the Zodiac Killer since October 1969, but to this day he remains unidentified, and the case continues to fascinate many.

However, the new FX Network documentary makes a compelling case for Gary's father being responsible.

In the trailer, Gary reveals how he immediately saw his father's name in one of the Zodiac Killer's ciphers, and noticed how similar their handwriting was, too.

He also discovers the two men have the same fingerprint scar, he was in all the places the killer was said to have visited and - most damningly - there's a 99 percent probability of their DNA matching.

His mother then says: "Things began to get tense, he believes it very strongly. He believes he is the son of the zodiac".

The Most Dangerous Animal of All premieres Friday, March 6th on FX in the US.

While there is not yet a UK launch date for the docuseries, previous popular FX shows, like American Horror Story and Anger Management have gone on to be picked up by Netflix over here.

So, here's hoping we'll be able to watch this soon...
