The Academy has unveiled its full list of Oscar nominations ahead of the prestigious ceremony next month, and new film Roma has been put forward for 10 different awards. You can watch the trailer here...

Even better, you can see what the hype is all about from the comfort of your own home as the flick, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, is actually available to stream on Netflix already.

Originally premiering at Venice Film Festival in August 2018 and then released in the US in November the same year, Roma has been nominated for awards ranging from 'Best Director' to 'Best Picture'. Since its release, it has been picked up by the streaming giant.

Yalitza Aparicio has been nominated for her role as 'Best Actress', and Marina de Tavira as 'Best Supporting Actress' in Roma.

The two hour 15 minute-long movie is up for an award in the 'Best Original Screenplay' category, 'Best Cinematography', 'Best Foreign-Language Film', 'Best Sound Mixing', 'Best Sound Editing' and 'Best Production Design'.

Netflix describes the Spanish-language film as: "Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón delivers a vivid, emotional portrait of a domestic worker's journey set against domestic and political turmoil in 1970s Mexico."

The plot has been dubbed 'intensely personal' and is set in 1970s Mexico City, with the title reflecting the city's Colonia Roma district.

Roma is classed as a foreign film, and may potentially reflect the Academy's efforts to increase diversity in the wake of the #OscarsSoWhite backlash of 2015 and 2016.

The film, which is shot in black and white, is the first foreign-language film to receive a best picture nomination since Armour in 2013. No foreign film has ever won up until this point.

Roma won numerous awards at the past Golden Globes and picked up a Golden Lion in 2018.

Other movies nominated for awards at the 91st Academy Awards include A Star Is Born, Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Green Book, Vice and BlacKkKlansman.
