Luther Creator Confirms There Won't Be A New Season Of The Show

The creator of BBC detective drama Luther has confirmed there will not be another season of the show. Boo!

Neil Cross explained there are no plans for a sixth season of the show, which starred Idris Elba as DCI John Luther.

Speaking to Australia's Insider magazine, Neil said: "There is not going to be a season six - definitively no season six."

Well that sounds very definite!

He did, however, go on to explain that there is something exciting on the horizon, although he couldn't spill the beans just yet.

"But Idris, [director] Jamie Payne, and I will shortly have some exciting news to share," he added. "There's gonna be more later, but it's not going to be season six."

It's not the first time Neil has hinted about an exciting Luther project. Last month he teased "something big is coming" meanwhile Idris has been speaking about a potential Luther movie for the last two years, and confirmed it is happening a few months ago.

"I've maintained that I'd like to see [Luther] come to a film," he said at the BAFTA TV Awards earlier this year.

"That's what I think we're headed towards, is a film. I'm looking forward to making that happen... It is happening! With film, the sky is the limit. You can be a little bit more bold with the storylines, and a little bit more international, and a little more up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther.

"...Neil is beavering away on writing this thing, and I think the remit for the film is to scale it up. It will be more murder, more Volvos, more frowning Luther... essentially we just want to try to take it to a much bigger audience and scale, and perhaps international as well."

Created by Neil Cross, Luther first hit our screens in 2010. The hit series also made a star of Ruth Wilson who played narcissistic murderer Alice Morgan, who shares a love-hate, cat-and-mouse relationship with John throughout the series.

Well, this is very exciting! More news on what we hope is an upcoming Luther film as soon as we hear!
