If there's one thing fans have learned about Game of Thrones after eight seasons, it's that we should never underestimate a close-up. And there was one big close-up from this week's episode which has led fans to whip up some pretty convincing theories.
During the penultimate episode, 'The Bells' , we see Varys, played by Conleth Hill, on the receiving end of Drogon's fire-breath after Tyrion grassed him up to Dany for committing treason.
Before he meets his fiery fate, we see Varys in his room writing up some treasonous stuff about Dany and Jon Snow's true identity, when he hears the Queen's guards coming to collect him.

No doubt realising he's about to die, Varys burns the letter he wrote - and then takes off his rings. The latter of which we viewers get a lingering close-up of.
We get the letter part: it's evidence of his treason. But why does someone need to take off their rings before they are executed?

Well Buzzfeed has a theory that Vary's rings actually contain poison that could be used to finish Dany off in the season finale.
In case you missed it (many people did), at the start of episode five, Varys tries to poison Dany with the help of a kitchen girl, but failed because she wasn't eating. So poison is his thing, we know that.
There's also the fact that Joffrey was killed by poison jewellery way back in season four. Remember?
Olenna had arranged to kill Joffrey with the help of little finger and used Sansa Stark in the process. Little Finger worked with Dontos Hollard to deliver the poison, hidden in a stone in Sansa's necklace. During Joffrey's wedding to Margaery Tyrell, Olenna removed the stone, and put it in Joffrey's wine.

So with that in mind, it's an interesting theory that Vary's rings could also contain poison. The question now is how will it be given to Dany, and who will do it?
