As every Grease fan will know, Danny and Sandy met down at the beach during the school holidays, before Sandy tragically had to return to Australia at the end of summer (or so she thought).

But what exactly went down, down at the beach? Well fans, it wont be long before we find out because a Grease prequel is officially happening! Yaaaass.

The Paramount film, named Summer Lovin', has just been assigned a director, too. According to Deadline, Brett Haley will direct, meanwhile Leah McKendrick has penned the script and Temple Hill and Picturestart will produce.

Currently, the only synopsis fans have been given is that the film will focus "on the fling Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson had before reconnecting at high school".

Basically, as Rizzo says, we'll finally find out why Sandy "hauled her cookies all the way down to the beach for some guy".

One of the songs from the hit 1978 movie, 'Summer Nights' does give some indication about what the plot of the prequel could include - although it's unclear whether this has been strictly stuck to in the script.

For example, in the song, Danny says he saved Sandy's life - although in her version he simply 'showed off splashing around' (so perhaps that's how they initially meet?!)

We also know they went bowling in the arcade, drank lemonade and even stayed out until 10 o'clock! It's expected the prequel will be a little more drama filled and we can't wait to see the new take on such an iconic musical.

Although there's currently no indication of who will star in the film, we imagine they'll start casting in the coming months and hopefully the film will begin production as soon as possible.

We can't wait to find out who'll be playing all our favourite iconic characters and while we've had no word on when eventually the movie will be released, we've got everything crossed for summer 2021!
