The trailer has just dropped for BBC show, His Dark Materials Season 2 - and it looks just as gripping as the first instalment.

The first season of the trilogy was hailed as "magnificent" by fans, with some even comparing the fantasy series to Harry Potter.

Based on the trilogy of books by Philip Pullman, the first season followed Lyra Belacqua (played by Dafne Keen), a young girl who embarks upon a magical adventure through a series of parallel universes.

Her mission? To find her kidnapped friend, but the youngster soon gets embroiled in the workings of a sinister organisation of kidnapping children.

Along the way, the fantasy drama saw Lyra encounter mystical creatures, such as Bear King and Iofur Raknison, an enormous armed polar bear.

James McAvoy played Lyra's uncle, the adventurer Lord Asriel, meanwhile Ruth Wilson starred as the evil Mrs. Coulter, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby.

When the first episode of the adaptation aired, it drew in a whopping 7.2 million viewers.

Now, the second season - based on the second book of the trilogy, The Subtle Knife - is finally on the horizon and we cannot wait. This time, Lord Asriel has opened a bridge to a new world, and, grieving over the loss of her best friend, Lyra follows her uncle into the unknown.

She meets Will (Amir Wilson) a boy who is from the same world from Lyra and also running from his troubles. BBC explain the pair soon realise their destinies are "tied to reuniting Will with his father but find their path is constantly thwarted as a war begins to brew".

Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson) is in search of Lyra, determined to bring her home to their world no matter the cost.

And if the trailer is anything to go by, it looks like it's going to be equally addictive as the first season.

It opens with Lyra and Will, bumping into each other in the parallel universe Cittàgazze. Fans are also given a first look at the Tower of Angels which stands in the city. Viewers hear Will asking: "You're not from around here, are you, from this world?"

If that wasn't exciting enough, Andrew Scott (who plays John Parry) revealed at a virtual Comic Con panel for the show yesterday, that Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be joining the cast for Season 2. Yasss!

"My daemon is going to be played by somebody who is very close to me in real life," he said.

"Which is a young performer and writer called Phoebe Waller-Bridge."

Phoebe's role is said to be a small cameo but we are very excited nonetheless. His Dark Materials Season 2 will air on BBC later this year. *Counting down the days*...
